Multiple
Emmy®
Award-winning Makeup Artist Kevin-James Bennett has
spent more that 20 years in the industry honing the
skills that have brought him accolades from his
peers as well as viewers of the numerous television,
film and commercial projects he has worked on.
Kevin began his career in the early 80’s where he
was mesmerized by the dawn of the "Supermodel".
Intrigued by the idea of creating "living, breathing
art", he began training with and assisting some of
NYC's best and most creative makeup artists on
everything from fashion models to drag queens to
department store mannequins (yes, he painted
mannequins for Bloomingdales).
After years of training and thousands of hours of
freelance and retail makeup work, his career hit the
fast track working at the famous Peter Coppola Salon
on Madison Ave. With a combination of obvious talent
and a gracious, professional manner with society and
celebrity clientele, he was promoted to Resident
Makeup Artist and was now working with the salon’s
top stylists on magazine, editorial and commercial
shoots. He also participated in "make-over" segments
on television talk shows that featured the salon. He
soon began getting calls directly from the
television studios to do work for them on a
freelance basis.
The demand for Kevin's talents grew steadily in the
early 90's as he worked on fashion runways, print
advertisements, commercials and of course
television, working consistently on News and
Magazine type shows including the infamous
"Ambush-style" talk shows. Eventually, he landed in
the world of Daytime Dramas (better known as
“soaps”) where he spent 9 years as Key Makeup Artist
for two network shows. During that time he received
Four Nominations and Two Emmy Awards for his work.
He is also credited as being the first artist to
introduce "airbrush makeup" to a daytime drama. A
skill he now uses extensively for HD (High
Definition) Video projects.
Looking for new challenges, he left the world of
daytime to "play" with makeup in new arenas. He
found renewed excitement and fulfillment working in
Film, Primetime Television, Commercials (TV &
Print), Documentaries, and Reality Shows including
the recent TLC hit "Town Haul". He has also designed
the look of a number of "pilots" (shows in
development for network and cable television
consideration).
An admitted 'Makeup Whore', Kevin loves to be
anywhere he can work with, design, buy, talk or
write about makeup. He continues to live and work in
NYC as well as travel extensively as an artist for
Film, Video, Commercials and Photography.
Kevin is also an accomplished educator, teaching
intermediate to advanced make-up techniques and is a
frequent guest speaker at workshops and seminars
covering diverse areas of the makeup industry and
how to achieve success in them.
His editorials and advise on beauty, fashion and
lifestyle cover many genre's and can be found online
and in such magazines as Glamour, Town & Country,
and Health. You can also read his weekly fashion
critique and monthly beauty column in Soap Opera
Digest.
